C-Strukt SA

Welcome to C-Strukt designers and suppliers of specialized and mass timber products.

Specialized timber engineering focuses on the design, analysis, and construction of structures using timber as the primary material. C-Strukt combines traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering techniques and technologies to optimize timber’s natural properties.

Key aspects include:

  1. Material Properties: Understanding the mechanical properties of different species of timber, such as strength, elasticity, and durability.
  2. Design Techniques: Utilizing software for structural analysis, including finite element modeling and design optimization to ensure safety and efficiency.
  3. Sustainability: Emphasizing renewable materials together with Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and sustainable practices.
  4. Connections and Joints: Developing innovative connections and joint designs to enhance structural performance while minimizing material use.
  5. Building Codes and Standards: Navigating regulations and codes specific to timber construction to ensure compliance and safety.
  6. Hybrid Systems: Integrating timber with other materials (like steel and concrete) for composite structures that leverage the strengths of each material.
  7. Innovative Applications: Exploring new uses for timber, such as tall timber buildings and engineered wood products like cross-laminated timber (CLT).

Engineered mass timber is gaining traction as the demand for sustainable construction solutions increases, and it offers exciting opportunities for engineers and architects alike!

Benefits of using timber.

Using timber in buildings offers numerous benefits, making
it an attractive choice for architects and builders. Here are some key
advantages:

  1. Sustainability: Timber is a renewable resource, especially when sourced from sustainably managed forests. It has a lower carbon footprint compared to materials like concrete and steel.
  2. Aesthetic Appeal: Timber provides a warm, natural look that enhances the aesthetic quality of buildings. Its versatility allows for various design styles.
  3. Lightweight: Timber is lighter than many other building materials, making it easier to handle and transport, which can reduce construction costs.
  4. Good Insulator: Wood has excellent thermal insulation properties, helping to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures and reduce energy costs.
  5. Carbon Sequestration: Timber stores carbon dioxide, which helps mitigate climate change by reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
  6. Speed of Construction: Prefabricated timber components can accelerate the construction process, leading to shorter project timelines.
  7. Flexibility in Design: Timber can be easily cut and shaped, allowing for creative and custom designs, including intricate details.
  8. Acoustic Performance: Timber has good sound-dampening properties, making it suitable for residential and commercial buildings where noise control is important.
  9. Health Benefits: Timber contributes to improved indoor air quality, as it regulates humidity and releases moisture when the air is dry.

These benefits make timber an appealing choice for a wide range of building projects, from residential homes to large commercial structures.

FAQ

We design a variety of timber structures, including residential homes, commercial buildings, bridges, decks, and more. Our services also extend to renovations and extensions of existing  structures.

Timber is a sustainable material with excellent thermal insulation properties, lightweight characteristics, and aesthetic appeal. It also has a lower carbon footprint compared to steel and concrete, making it an eco-friendly choice.

We use advanced engineering techniques and software to analyze and model the structural performance of timber buildings. Our designs adhere to local building codes and industry standards to ensure safety and durability.

We recommend species based on the project’s requirements, such as strength, durability, and environmental conditions. Common choices include various grade strengths of South African pine and Saligna gum.

in order to obtain accurate member selection it is essential to consult with either a qualified person or professional engineer.  Buying the incorrect timber sections is a very dangerous practice which will not be acceptable for certification and insurance will decline any claims in the event of structural failure.

Timelines vary based on project size and complexity, but we strive for efficient planning and execution. A general estimate ranges from a few months for small projects to over a year for larger constructions.

We incorporate moisture-resistant materials and treatments, along with proper ventilation and drainage systems, to minimize the risk of decay and pest infestations. Regular maintenance and inspections are also recommended.

We prioritize sourcing timber from FSC certified forests and work closely with suppliers to ensure ethical practices. We can also advise clients on sustainable building practices and materials.
